As part of Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week, Institute for Development and European Integration, through the “SDG Partnership: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland” project, organized the panel “Green Skills for a Sustainable Future”, focusing on the role of knowledge and skills in the green transformation of companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event was opened by Amra Fetahović, Member of the SDG Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who highlighted the importance of linking sustainable development and human capital development with the changing needs brought by the green transition.
The opening presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sabin Bieri, Director of the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern, who spoke about the key principles underpinning green skills and their importance for a sustainable transformation.
Prof. Dr. Jasmina Mangafić from the University of Sarajevo then delivered a presentation entitled “What Skills Does the Green Transition Require?”, exploring how education, the labor market and the needs of businesses can respond to the emerging demands of a green economy.
The presentations were followed by a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from the private sector, academia, institutions and international organizations.

The discussion was moderated by Ivan Barbalić, Director of the Employment Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The conversation focused on the needs of companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the development of new competencies, the adaptation of existing skills, and the role of the education sector, institutions, the private sector and international organizations in preparing the workforce for the green transition.
Particular attention was given to how investing in knowledge and people can contribute to a more sustainable and competitive economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
